What is Pinoy Relief?
On November 8th, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines with a force 1.9x stronger than Hurricane Katrina and 2.9x stronger than Hurricane Sandy. Over 14 million people were affected and over 6,000 lives were lost. More than one month later, more than 4 million people are displaced from their homes, including 1.7 million children and youth.
Created in 2013 in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, Pinoy Relief was formed to generate awareness, raise funds and create sustainable recovery programs for the victims and communities affected by this devastating natural disaster. The focus of our organization is to bring the power of a global community (aggregated resources, crisis expertise, and awareness) to help the masses in need at a local level. The organization is currently working locally in Guiuan, East Samar in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity and Operation Blessing deploying homes, schools and boats for fisherman. Pinoy Relief is dedicated to finding, funding, developing and monitoring programs in partnership with local and global NGO’s to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan and will roll out more programs across other communities in need.
We’ll use this blog to post updates from our team who is currently in the Philippines. However, your support is needed daily. To make a donation and get more information about our mission, visit PinoyRelief.org.
